Song # 3: ‘This will be my car’

Well friends, this has been a fun one. I’m excited to explain the process a bit more in podcast form early next week and hear Tim’s rendition of Weezer inspired music as well. My song is an homage of sorts to old car, a ’91 Ford Escort Sunsport Pony (similar to what is pictured here). Here are the lyrics and music. Enjoy.

Food For the Saints – This Will Be My Car

Get in the car, in the car, in the passengers seat

We’re going far but not too far, just trust in me.

Don’t fall asleep, fall asleep, keep me awake.

Who you gonna be, gonna be, gonna be today

Let’s arrive on time, not a minute late.

I won’t fall asleep, I’ll stay awake.

This will be my car, next year

no more listening to Boz Scaggs singing on the radio

This will be my car

Let’s make a stop, make a stop, for a drink

Put the pedal to the metal, never settle, don’t let this baby sink

Look in the mirror, in the mirror, is your hair OK

I wanna be a man, be a man, be a man today

Let’s arrive on time, not a minute late.

I won’t fall asleep, I’ll stay awake.

This will be my car, next year

no more listening to Boz Scaggs singing on the radio

This will be my car

This red car will make a scene, just wait and see

I don’t care if people stare or say a prayer for me.

  1. We can talk more on the p-cast about this. I really like the song. Especially the section that goes “This will be my car, next year”. It gets in my head. I think you can use some sort of wind guard on your mic to stop the ‘p’ sounds. This song is very blue album b-side (too me). Thanks Lars and I miss that old piece of crap car.

Other news: I’ll put my song up tonight and we have some interviews ready to post for the coming weeks

  2. This is a great representation of what Weezer would write in their lyrics and music changes. The happy instrumental melody in the intro is another great element that Weezer exercises. The song has catchy hooks that are enhanced by the change word pronunciation as the musical progression changes.

I was bummed that I didn’t have time to participate in this month’s song. I love Weezer!

This is a great idea. I find myself looking forward to your posts each month.

    Keep this going. Please!

  3. my main memories of that car include scraping a quarter inch of ice off the inside of the windshield while driving down an icy 694 at 70 mph. Also, the rank smell of a 6 month old black half-eaten McDonald’s cheeseburger under the passenger seat. Is that a pic of the actual car or just one you found?
